Having a leader to guide your career growth is one of the most influential factors in your professional journey. Building a strong connection with your leader and relying on their guidance for navigating career decisions not only benefits you in your current role but can also have a lasting impact on your future career.
Meet Meghan Morrow, Associate Manager on the Originations team. Meghan has been with SoFi for over three years, and has had the chance to move around internally, growing from an Onboarding Specialist into an Associate Manager, Originations (OMS).
Now as a leader, Meghan drives the importance of leadership and a manager’s role in promoting internal mobility. Meghan works with her team to set both short and long-term goals, ensuring they look at the big picture throughout their career journey. Read more about that journey below.
Q: Tell me about you and your current team at SoFi.
Meghan: I work within our Originations Member Service Delivery team assisting members with our lending products such as personal and student loans. I oversee our Jacksonville, Florida Originations team as an Associate Manager. As a leader on the team, I model our SoFi values everyday by making sure the team feels supported while also providing guidance on how to learn, iterate and innovate; not just within their current roles, but also in their journey at SoFi.
Q: When employees come to you to express their interest in Internal Mobility, what is one of the first things you do to Help People Grow?
Meghan: I set goals for myself on a daily basis to check in and see how my team is doing. I feel at the end of the day, I am doing my job when I can help others do theirs to the best of their ability. Each week, I meet with my agents one-on-one and together, we set weekly goals to accomplish until we meet the following week. This can be a small role-based goal like improving their metrics, or a more general professional development goal, like completing a learning course. I have learned that there are more ways than one to help people grow and I try to embody this for my team on a daily basis.
Q: What steps do you take to help your team think about their internal career journey?
Meghan: I work with each agent individually on their journey. As their manager, I try to do everything in my power to help them meet and exceed the goals we collectively set out to achieve. It all starts with getting to know each agent on a personal level: how they work and communicate. My role as a manager is to help them identify their strengths and use those strengths to fuel their growth in their current role. I am big on transparency: I like to make sure that my agents know where how they are performing and areas we commit to improving together within their current role. I really like to utilize any and all resources available to me to help assist my agents to the next step in their SoFi journey. I try to make sure their resumes and cover letters represent them individually and really highlight all of their strengths. From there, we work on setting weekly goals that are attainable. This way we can slowly work on making those weekly goals turn into the big picture at the end of it all.
Q: What would you say is the “golden ticket” or valuable component when it comes to supporting your teams to learn and grow?
Meghan: Open and honest communication! Without it, achieving professional growth becomes that much harder. Having those weekly check-ins and building rapport with each agent is the best way to know as a manager how I can support each and every one of them day after day.
Q: Thank you for sharing! Let’s end on a fun one: what is a current hobby you enjoy outside of work?
Meghan: Spending time with my babies. I have a one and an eight year old who love the outdoors. So we love to venture to new playgrounds, the swimming pool, and the beach.
Meghan, you truly embody Helping People Grow, and we’re grateful you’ve shared the ways you provide guidance and support to your team. Thank you for all that you do to promote Internal Mobility at SoFi!
