At SoFi, we are committed to creating a workplace where everyone feels welcomed, included, and able to contribute. We know this goal can only happen when employees feel safe being themselves at work, which is in part why we created SoFi Circles. SoFi Circles are groups that identify through a common culture or experience that builds community. These employee networks aim to empower SoFi employees to:
Our Circles aim to create high-trust relationships that help our organization thrive. The groups foster a sense of belonging and inspire conversation, bring new ways to look at issues, and drive innovation.
In honor of Pride month (which never really ends!), we’re thrilled to introduce you to members of SoFi Pride, our Circle whose purpose is to unite and empower our diverse SoFi community to inspire equality for all our people—including sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression. SoFi Pride also welcomes Allies of support for the LGBTQ+ community.
SoFi Pride Co-Presidents Colton Moore (he/him) and Mark Shura (he/him) sat down with DevOps Engineer Kristijana Arroyo (they/them) to learn more about what they do at SoFi and why they are a proud member of the SoFi Pride community.
Colton & Mark: What led you to SoFi? Why did you want to join the company?
Kristi: My mother-in-law works as an editing contractor for SoFi. She is a fan of the inclusive work environment and enjoys working for the company. I became curious and found an open position for a DevOps Engineer role. When meeting with the team, I could tell the role and team fosters growth and building strong relationships across the organization.
Colton & Mark: Tell us a little about your role and how long you’ve been here?
Kristi: I’ve been part of the Observability Team at SoFi for about six months! I help support our Engineering and Infrastructure teams with tools and solutions that monitor the health and performance of SoFi projects.
Colton & Mark: As you know, Kristi, one of our 11 core values is embracing diversity. Everyone should feel welcome, included, and able to contribute. What does “Embracing Diversity” mean to you?
Kristi: For me, embracing diversity means that I do my best to communicate and work in a way that’s inclusive for everyone. We all come from different backgrounds; taking the time to learn and appreciate them can lead to building stronger relationships with people. I try to approach it with a lot of openness while also recognizing and accepting where I need to improve. By being more inclusive and mindful, I hope to welcome people to be their full self!
Colton & Mark: Circles are a big part of SoFi Culture. What does being part of the SoFi Pride Circle mean to you?
Kristi: The SoFi Pride Circle is a place to celebrate and appreciate everyone within the LGBTQ+ community and allies. Groups like SoFi Pride allow people to embrace an important part of their identity with their colleagues. It also serves as an accessible place for people to learn about our history, culture, and heroes and what it means to us.
Colton & Mark: Why did you decide to get involved in this Circle?
Kristi: I was excited to connect with other SoFi and Galileo employees that are part of the LGBTQ+ community and allies!
Colton & Mark: What is your favorite thing about being a part of SoFi Pride?
Kristi: I really enjoy meeting so many people from SoFi and Galileo! Getting to know others has been especially encouraging since we’re all still working from home.
Thank you for sharing with us, Colton, Mark and Kristi!
